On Saturday June 16th 2018, McDermott & Bull Europe organized it’s first hockey clinic for the families of our clients at the Larensche Mixed Hockey Club. About 50 children in the age group 4-16 years attended the clinic which was led by London Olympic gold medalist Joyce Sombroek and our colleague and hockey legend Teun de Nooijer. When the children arrived around 15:00 PM they received a white McDermott & Bull shirt sponsored by Osaka. The children were welcomed by Joyce and Teun and divided in groups. The clinic consisted of 5 exercises of which one led by Joyce, another by Teun and the three others from volunteering relatives from McDermott & Bull Europe. The children rotated every 15 min from one exercise to the other. They practiced different skills with each exercise and enjoyed playing and learning with other children. The atmosphere was competitive, relaxed and everybody was having fun. Once all the groups had completed their five exercises, it was time for the final exercise. The opportunity to score a goal while the goal was alternately manned by Joyce and two children who are goalkeepers in their respective teams. For the spectators it was probably one of the most exciting moments of the clinic. As each child was taking his chance and trying to score a goal with a cheering crowd around the field.
After the clinic there was the opportunity for all children to take a picture with both Joyce and Teun while wearing Joyce’s Olympic gold medal! They also got autographs from both athletes on their McDermott & Bull shirts as well as on all items they wished to be signed (schoolbags, training bags, hockey sticks, diaries etc.). All children received personal attention from both athletes throughout the clinic and one of them gave us the most beautiful compliment we could wish for by telling us it was the most beautiful day of her life. A delicious BBQ buffet was served which was enjoyed by all. We look back at a very successful event, our clients and their families had a fun afternoon and left with a lot of precious memories.
